| When the Bureau of
Engraving and Printing began printing stamps in 1894 they
modified the 1890 American Bank Note Company designs by
adding triangles to the upper corners. Only the triangles
on the 2¢ denomination exist in three versions - Type I,
II and III. |

| Type I -
Horizontal lines of uniform thickness run through the triangle.

Type II -
Horizontal lines cross the triangle, but they are thinner inside triangle than outside.

Type III -
Horizontal lines do not cross the double frame lines of the triangle
