The first stamp in a classic commemorative set issued at the Trans-Mississippi Exposition in Omaha features "Marquette on the Mississippi", taken from a painting by William Lamprecht showing Father Jacques Marquette, a Jesuit priest, preaching to a group of Indians. Marquette, along with Louis Joliet and five Frenchmen, explored the upper Mississippi River in 1673.
This unused 1¢ issue may have minor imperfections such as disturbed gum, a bend or a straight edge, but it will be an attractive stamp with fine or better centering and a welcome addition to your collection - plus you save $16 off our regular price!
