#1852 - 9¢ Sylvanus Thayer

Though a career military officer, Sylvanus Thayer may be better remembered as an educator. The "Father of West Point", Thayer served as the superintendent of the United States Military Academy for sixteen years, overhauling the curriculum and enforcing strict military discipline.
