#2538 - 29¢ William Saroyan
Boasting an impressive mustache, William Saroyan made his fame as a novelist, playwright and short story writer. During the 1930s and 1940s he worked on a variety of screenplays and stage productions, famously turning down a Pulitzer Prize for the play "The Time of Your Life" citing that “commerce should not judge the arts.” Russia and the U.S. released a joint issue to honor this writer who died of prostate cancer in 1981 at the age of 72.
