American critic, poet, writer and satirist Dorothy Parker came to be known for her quick wit and outspoken nature. She worked for various magazines in New York and published volumes of sardonic poetry before becoming a screenwriter in 1937. As she became older, the left-leaning Parker was blacklisted from Hollywood during the McCarthy era due to fears that she was a communist.
