Sesame Street has won the hearts of kids, parents and educators since it first aired on PBS in November 1969. The program introduced viewers to human characters who interacted with Jim Henson’s Muppets. Characters like Big Bird, Rubber Duckie, Oscar the Grouch, The Count, Elmo, Grover, Bert and Ernie performed in parodies and spoofs of fairy tales, musicals and pop culture as the fundamental components of the show. Sesame Street's creative team used fast-paced, catchy videos to teach letters and numbers with songs sung by colorful Muppet characters and celebrity guests.
