In early 1934 President Roosevelt (FDR) approved the request by Mrs. H.H. McCluer for a postage stamp to honor Mothers Day. FDR personally sketched his design idea for this stamp which was derived from the iconic painting "Whistler's Mother". The world's first Mother's Day stamp was issued on May 2, 1934
