Colombia #C11 Scarce Early Airmail - 1920 Mint Imperforate Issue

With its difficult terrain and scattered population, it was natural that Colombia was an early pioneer in the use of airmail. In 1920 a private firm, the Compania Colombiana de Navegacion Aerea, handled domestic airmail service and briefly issued its own stamps. This interesting imperforate and ungummed stamp pictures a pilot in the foreground waving to another airmail pilot in a biplane typical of those used in these early pioneering flights.
