Renaissance Madonna & Child - With First Day Cancel

Save over 50% on this Artist's Most Famous Work!

Antonio Correggio remains one of the most celebrated 16th century Italian Renaissance painters almost 500 years after his death. This large 7” x 9½” sheet beautifully recreates the artist's famed Madonna and Child and includes four stamps highlighting the birth of Jesus canceled on its first day of issue.

Released in 1983 by North Korea, it is ironic that a nation where religious freedom is restricted would issue stamps with a decidedly Christian theme. But in the early 1980s North Korea, under the founding President Kim Il-sung, was attempting to establish foreign relations and the stamps from this era reflect more international themes including British royalty and events in Western nations. With the current political regime it is unlikely we will ever see another postal issue from North Korea celebrating the birth of Christ!
