World War II Resistance - St. Pierre & Miquelon #250 1942 Mint Issue

During World War II, many French colonies sided with the resistance movement headed by General De Gaulle. St. Pierre & Miquelon, a small group of islands off the coast of Newfoundland, is the only French possession in North America. This 1942 mint overprinted issue announces its takeover by the Free French Naval Forces, preventing the Axis-controlled Vichy government from establishing a base there. (St. Pierre & Miquelon #250)
