WW Occupied Alsace France #N27-N42 - 1940 Complete Mint Set of 16

The ownership of Alsace, in the Upper Rhine area of eastern France, has been contested by France and Germany for hundreds of years. While it is now part of France, during World War II is was occupied by Germany. German stamps picturing President Hindenburg were overprinted with German spelling “Elsass” for use in the region during the war. (France #N27-42)
