1898 Trans-Mississippi Exposition #285-293
The Trans-Mississippi Exposition issue, on sale for only five months, offered finely-engraved glimpses of places and events from pioneer days in the American West. Each stamp was intended to be printed in two colors, but the extra cost and added printing workload brought on by the Spanish-American War dictated their release in only a single color.
