"Marquette on the Mississippi" is taken from a painting by William Lamprecht and shows Father Jacques Marquette, a Jesuit priest, preaching to a group of Indians.  Marquette, along with Louis Joliet and five Frenchmen, explored the upper Mississippi River in 1673.  Scott 285 Marquette
