1898 Universal Postal Union Colors #279-284
In 1898, the Universal Postal Union recommended the color-coding of several denominations to simplify the sorting of mail. Green was used for 1¢ post card stamps, red for 2¢ domestic first-class letter stamps, and blue for 5¢ or international mail postage.
