1918 $2 and $5 Issues #523-524
With hostilities drawing to a close in Europe, relief shipments to those left destitute by World War I came in the form of parcels from concerned Americans. To fill the demand for stamps with high denominations needed for heavy packages, the Post Office authorized distinctive $2 and $5 stamps to be printed in a two-color, horizontal format.
