#2728 - 29¢ Otis Redding

Forced to drop out of school to help support his family at the age of 15, Otis Redding would go on to produce albums that outsold Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin combined! The singer/songwriter also played guitar and piano was given the title "King of Soul". Tragically, Redding was killed on his way to a show in 1967, when the small plane he was flying in crashed into Lake Monona. Bands such as the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Janis Joplin, and the Doors have all credited Redding as an influence, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducted Otis Redding in 1989.
