American women have excelled in rowing for decades. During their first appearance in the 1976 Summer Olympics the eight-woman team won the bronze medal. The women's rowing team next appeared in the 1984 Summer Olympics. Since 1984, women have brought home gold, silver, or bronze medals in at least one of the rowing categories at each Summer Olympics— except 2021.
